Keep Left, Please!
October 8th, 2007 | by David C |Its strange how we Singaporeans tend to forget so easily. What happened to the decent courtesy of moving to the left on an escalator?
Why are people still standing on the right side, blocking others in a rush from climbing up the escalator? I remember years back when it had gotten so bad that the government had to spend a buckload of our taxpayer’s money to remind Singaporeans to keep to the left.
It worked back then and everything was smooth once again. But give it a few months after the campaign ended, people started to block the right-hand passageway again. Is this short-sightedness or do Singaporeans really want the government to be there to keep on reminding us what we should and shouldn’t do? Isn’t this supposed to be common sense?
It is so bloody annoying to be late for work and have to see bloody people just standing on the right-hand side of the escalator nonchalantly. GARH.

I do agree. It is the same for those who block the way out from MRTs when there is a yellow directional sign painted beneath their feet.
Since people cannot be expected to exercise initiative, perhaps sometimes we should exercise draconian measures to ensure that they do. However, that just remains a dream of mine, and it won’t be a reality.

If I’m in a hurry, i’ll just squeeze my way past the person, purposely pushing him with my shoulder.
