everyday hundreds of foreign workers, squatters, illegal workers and overstayers come to klang lane and belilios road.
Blocks 671 and 672 provide free housing to indians, banglas, pakistanis etc. Although its a hdb residential area and there are prominent sign boards stating no illegal gathering, no loitering in hdb void decks and lift lobbies/staircases.
Something has to be done. there is no crowd control and no police patrol or regular visits/spotchecks by hdb or town council or any authorities. Fellow singaporeans pay hdb with their hardearned hdb cpf and borrow money to build their homes but we see foreign workers lying on the floor of the void decks and letter box area. There are no police who check their ID or charge them with loitering or illegal gathering.
on weekends, the roads surround klang lane and belilios ,chander road, race course and serangoon road are completely swamped and blocked. cars are unable to pass . residents are sruck in their homes and unable to pass.
when residents try to make calls to 999, their mobile lines are blocked due to overuse of mobile lines in the area.
do we need to wait for an ang mo or mp to be affected before any action happens.

From what i have heard and read about the cdj 400, it seems that the unit however small it seems to be has been tailored for professional performance,it is obviously superior to all the rest of its size, like the numark icdx. the only thing that bothers me is the tiny jog size

David C, the govt already plan to build a new road link to the side gate on the main high way, which will become the main GATE, therefore the lorries will not need to go inside the gardens.
But the govt only solve the transport problem, haiz I can't imagine the next time I go CHOMP CHOMP eat will see 1 k of them gathering there. It will be like little indina, siting everywhere on the grass. Since its already inevitable, I still think the numbers should be reduced, 1 k of them is just too many. What if the company they work with got some probems with them? Eg. like didnt pay them or some difference, they could easily create a riot.

Imagine if we were to petition and get it our way, how will other places with foreign Workers Dormitory react. So it’s a sure lose situation for us…

Second problem was that an incomplete petition was done. The petition defiantly only reflect small portion of Seragoon garden view, It outrages a newspaper article came hinted that the petition was done over a scale of 1600/7000 people. When most of us wasn’t informed, and then its over…

The question we should really ask is, where do these foreign workers come from and which section of the market? E.g Constructions?
It would seem extremely strange, That china and Malaysian which are the majority of our foreign worker work force e.g. manufacturing, Retailer, Food and barrage and etc… are not really affect by insufficient places to stay?
Please show how many percent of them do really stay and occupy these dormitories?
What I am hearing and seeing are that they are not from Malaysia or china so where are they from?

It seem that the main problem are from some companies, which acquire super cheap labor and are not bearing the burden of providing sufficiently for them to find a place to stay, which leads having such kind of foreign dormitory in the first place. This is caused by either POOR FORCAST or extremely poor control of companies.

At the end of the day low pay leads to desperation, all guys and no entertainment leads to even more “LUST”. low education leads to more stupidity. Too make it even better, lets put 1k of them together. And what is the smartest thing to do placing them beside people who seem to have it all….

To those who support the foreign worker Dormitory, do take up night jogging after 530pm. The logic is super simple no entertainment (no tv) after work, no money to relax, no girls, not enough to eat, gang together with noting to do, so where do you go?

WE ARE NOT HAPPY !!!
100 still ok, BUT 1000 !?! 1000/100=10 places Only!!
Come on man distributed them, more evenly around Singapore !!
There is no need to hide them, so why cluster them !?!
No more space to makan already, now it will even be worst… 1000…

LOL, Don’t you just love Singapore… ways…

Now that our feedback is useless and the government has decided to build the dorm at Serangoon Garden (despite initially saying that there was no plans in the first place), I wonder how are they going to solve the transportation issue.

this is 2 different issues, we are more concern about how the matter is handle. Workers dorm should be built in the suitable area and not trying to mix or integrate in the neighbourhood like this. They should have their own area shouldnt it be this way.

Just ask yourself, will you buy or stay in a place near to the workers dorm? There are actually more concerns and implications than simply asking people to act according to conscience here.

Even though if there is no proof and statistics to show that foreigners = high crime, but the 600 to 1000 of them will definitely make the place more complicated and messy, they are moving people, what if they loitor around the vicinity. Is it really suitable to built and mix workers dorm in neighbourhood in the first place?

Even if they are housed away from the residential areas doesnt mean they are treated badly, but i still think MND should draw out a area for workers dorm and not just mix or put in a neighbourhood like this.

Well if you dont mind, why not just built that worker dorm just beside your place and problem solved.

dear soh..

"Where is the proof and statistics to show that foreigners = high crime?"

have you been to jurong areas where there are large numbers of foreign workers? i'm staying at jurong east and SOME groups of FW can really be a nuisance. they loiter around at blocks, even at the mrt vicinity. drinking away on weekends and some broke into fights. can you really let your daughter/sister/gf or mother walk alone among all these groups of men without fearing for their safety? if you are a female, can you really walk around with all these group of men staring at you and say, "oh it's fine, after all my fore fathers were like you guys too" can you?

Hi,

I agreed that Serangoon Gardens have always been well known for its good neighbourhood, whole stretch of bungalows, well known for its food centre - Chomp Chomp and nice enivronment, but now comes the worker's dormitory so unexpectedly.

its simply ridiculous to built worker dorm in the neighbourhood. Actually not only the residents of Serangoon Gardens are not happy, the Serangoon North residents are not pleased either.

Ain't it is government bodies & agencies's responsibilities to find and locate the worker's dorm in the right and suitable area, together with other dorms, how can they just dump it in a neighbourhood like this and causing disturbance to the residents. It's very irresponsible. Even though Singapore is small but i dun think it is so small until there is absolutely no other places to house the workers and must put them a Serangoon gardens here. Today at Serangoon gardens how about Tomorrow? at ang mo kio, hougang, toa payoh, bedok or tampines? They seriously treat neighbourhood as workers dorm issit.

And it is not just 80 or 100 of them but 600 and later 1000, it is alot. Seragoon Gardens is always a nice simple, peaceful area now come so many these workers 600-1000 of them, the area will definitely become more complicated, who will like it!

The property prices near the workers dorm will also dropped and be affected by it. Who wants to buy a property near the dorm rite. Poor serangoon gardens residents, who are going to compensate their losses?

It is very irresponsible act to just dump them in the neighbourhood with schools nearby, childrens and residents. We all have different cultures and living habits its difficult to get along. I hope government wont treat neighbourhood as workers dorm, although we are just common residents but respect our living.

Yes its easy to tell others to be more open and embracing when it has nothing to do with you. Should just consider being in the shoes of the residents there.
